MSL Director

Our client is a global specialty pharmaceutical company. They have asked us to assist them in their search for a MSL Director.

Major tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • Provides leadership and strategic direction to a team of MSLs within a given region.
  • Ensures alignment of MSL goals with strategic medical plans.
  • Fosters sharing of best practices and utilizes medically-appropriate metrics to effectively achieve and evaluate Medical Affairs Departmental objectives.
  • Manages regional budget.
  • Serves as clinical/scientific resource to MSLs and external customers on the company’s marketed products and the therapeutic areas in which the company functions.
  • Identifies and builds long term peer relationships with Tthought Leaders in the therapeutic areas in which the company has current and future interests.
  • Shares knowledge and participates in scientific exchanges and interactions with identified Thought Leaders.
  • Presents clinical, scientific and economic data on the company’s products and relevant therapeutic areas to formulary decision-makers.
  • Identifies and communicates key clinical and research issues from industry leaders to appropriate internal partners to shape company research, development, and commercial strategies.
  • Develops effective business plan to support medical strategies for assigned regions and therapeutic areas.
  • Assures that all compliance guidelines are adhered to.
  • Conducts tactical & strategic medical planning, budgeting, data analysis, and administration.
  • Organizes, plans, facilitates, and attends various professional, scientific, and medical conferences.
  • Conducts periodic medical/scientific reviews with Medical Affairs team.
  • Maintains thorough and up-to-date knowledge of disease state, clinical information, and product data.
  • Serves as technical/scientific subject matter resource to the company’s personnel.
  • Creates education and presentation materials in support of internal and external customer needs ensuring compliance with regulatory and legal guidelines.
  • Works in conjunction with the appropriate internal departments to support the company’s collaboration and interactions with professional organizations/societies & advocacy groups.

We seek candidates with the following qualifications:

  • MD, PharmD or PhD in medical sciences is preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience as a clinical/medical science liaison in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industries is required.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience managing field-based clinical/medical science liaisons is a requirement.
  • Knowledge of pharmaceutical/healthcare market, acceptable practices and related regulations is required.  Advanced understanding of clinical/medical science is required.
  • Experience working cross-functionally, as well as influencing and negotiating at all levels within the organization.
  • Ability to anticipate, organize, plan and handle multiple changing priorities.
  • Ability to work independently while adhering to Medical Affairs strategic direction.
  • Ability to analyze complex situations and proactively identify opportunities/issues; effectively solve problems that cross functional boundaries.
  • Committed to the concept of team and working within the framework of the Medical. Affairs Department and the company’s organization, including as it pertains to compliance with policies, systems and practices.
  • Ability to work with software tracking/logging systems.
