Executive Director Biologics Drug Discovery

Our client is a major global healthcare company.  They have asked us to assist them in their search for an Executive Director Biologics Drug Discovery.

Major tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • Conceptualizes, establishes and leads research programs to completion, including defining long-range program and department goals.
  • Sets strategy and implements science for discovery and development of new biologics technologies.
  • Provides strategic scientific input to support projects in multiple disease areas.
  • Performs in wide latitude for un-reviewed action and must establish organizational and division objectives and policies.
  • Engages in independent research that will lead to fundamental insights in scientific discipline for technology development and project advancement.
  • Establishes new research projects or head programs different groups.
  • Generates innovative program concepts with potential commercial impact.
  • Creates value for research, drug discovery or technologies, generating innovative, interdisciplinary research projects and conducting exploratory activities.
  • Leads to completion scientific and/or technical initiative or drug discovery programs.
  • Leads the decision-making process for establishing program goals and guide their accomplishment.
  • Champions writing of external publications and patent applications.
  • Determines and pursues courses of action necessary to meet the organization's objectives and schedules.
  • Demonstrates a broad and in-depth understanding of his/her scientific field of responsibility for developing pharmaceuticals.
  • Demonstrates functional depth and maintains current knowledge in areas of expertise and related areas.
  • Leads the development and achievement long-range program goals.
  • Engages in independent research projects with potential commercial impact.
  • Develops novel, interdisciplinary research/scientific projects.
  • Generates innovative research project ideas.
  • Leads multidisciplinary teams multiple projects and/or programs across groups.
  • Oversees studies and assigns specific projects to subordinates, establishes target dates and priorities, mentor, train and evaluates reports.
  • Maintains and fosters internal and external contacts to ensure success of the research process.
  • Influences and motivates others.
  • Demonstrates strong leadership behavior and ability to collaborate with associates in related and unrelated disciplines or groups.
  • In addition to supervising and guiding preclinical research, the incumbent will interact with physician scientists in oncology and immune-oncology.

We seek candidates with the following qualifications:

  • Completion of a Post-Doctoral Fellowship or an MD with 10+ years of experience in a Drug Discovery or other related research laboratory.
  • Highly authoritative in area of expertise, recognized both internally and externally.
  • Widely recognized leader with a proven track record on multiple projects providing leadership in solving specific project/technical issues.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, excellent skills in collaboration, mentoring of scientists and technical projects.
  • Have prior achievement in science, technological development, or the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Be decisive and vision oriented and courageous.
  • Be a role model for credibility, quality, integrity, and sound judgment.
  • Have a background in leading a research group.
  • Possess the ability to build and lead high-performing teams; communicate transparently and effectively.
