Our client is one of the world’s leading generics and specialty pharmaceutical companies.  They have asked us to assist them in their search for a Director, Medical Affairs.

The Director, Medical Affairs will occupy a leadership role in supporting the company's Allergy franchise.  Responsibilities will include supporting the development and execution of the annual medical strategy.  The incumbent will work within a cross-functional team of medical professionals (health outcomes, biostatistics, clinical operations, medical information, publications, safety, regulatory, field medical science liaisons, and the Marketing and Sales organization) to assist in planning and executing all aspects of medical related Allergy product support, as directed by the Head, Medical Affairs North America.

Major tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • Supports the development and execution of the medical strategy for the company’s Allergy franchise; provides overall scientific and medical oversight within this therapeutic area.
  • Assists senior director with assessments, and intelligence on potential new products, joint ventures, corporate partnership and due diligence activities.
  • Works with the commercial team to help build awareness of the company’s products in the medical community as well better understand unmet medical needs by participating in medical symposia, publication, media events, and other activities.
  • Provides clinical support for field sales efforts and medical science liaisons to help them provide the scientific and clinical information necessary to improve patient care.
  • Responsible for supporting the review and approval of all franchise product promotional material and regulatory documents, in compliance with corporate standards government/industry regulations, ensuring that information is scientifically accurate and medically appropriate.
  • Provides medical support to product planning and line extensions, new indications, formula changes, opinion leader development and publication strategies for therapeutic area products.
  • Remains informed of current developments within pertinent medical and scientific communities through familiarity with current literature, attendance at meetings, conventions, professional associations, etc.

We seek candidates with the following qualifications:

  • Medical Degree (MD) or other advanced degree, (PharmD or PhD) and 8 years of pharmaceutical or related industry experience (in country) in the Allergy therapeutic Area with proven track record of contribution to commercial, medical and/or clinical development strategies is preferred.  However, a combination of experience and/or education will be taken into consideration.
  • Customer expertise especially scientific leadership and other key stakeholders (public groups, government officials, medical professional organizations).
  • Board eligibility or certification in therapeutic area related to the position.
  • Clinical research experience.
  • Requires working knowledge of Good Clinical Practices and Food and Drug Administration regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Ability to research and critically analyze product information, clinical data, and the medical literature.
  • Proven ability to effectively communicate information at management level.
  • Proven ability to translate complex science into clinically relevant information.
  • Excellent interpersonal, analytical, communication (written as well as oral), results oriented project management, facilitation and consultative skills to influence decision making.
